The short version. Counsellor is a free beta that shows you public college data. It is information, not advice, and it does not predict whether you will get in. Do not scrape it, and do not use it to harm anyone. Either of us can end the arrangement at any time.
These terms are an agreement between you and TODO_LEGAL_ENTITY ("Counsellor", "we"). By using counsellor.education you accept them. If you do not, please do not use the service.
You must be at least 13. If you are under 18 you need a parent or guardian's permission, and we ask for their email address when you register — they are the contracting party for anything paid, not you. We may refuse or close an account that does not meet these conditions.
The service is free and limited to a small number of accounts while we build it. Features may change or disappear. We may end the beta with reasonable notice. Nothing here promises that a particular feature will keep existing.
Counsellor reports figures from public federal datasets — IPEDS, the College Scorecard, and similar sources — and computes things from them. Those datasets are published on a lag, colleges restate them, and some values are suppressed or estimated. We do our best to say clearly which year a number comes from.
Nothing on Counsellor is professional counselling, legal advice, or financial advice, and nothing here predicts or guarantees an admissions decision, a scholarship, or an aid package. Verify anything that matters — deadlines, costs, requirements — with the college itself before relying on it. Decisions about your education are yours.
Keep your email account secure; anyone who controls it can sign in as you. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access. One account per person.
The lists and notes you create are yours. You give us permission to store and show them back to you, which is what makes the feature work, and nothing more. We do not publish them, and we do not show them to other users.
The public datasets are not ours and are not claimed here. Our own text, design, and the way we compute and present things are ours, and section 5 is the extent of what you may do with them.
You can stop using Counsellor and ask us to delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, that we reasonably believe is automated or fraudulent, or that Google or Apple tells us was created in bulk. Where the reason is not itself a security risk we will tell you why, and you can reply to contest it.
Counsellor is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that the data will be accurate or current. This does not exclude anything the law does not allow us to exclude.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for decisions made in reliance on the service. Because the beta is free, our total liability to you is limited to what you have paid us, which is nothing. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, and where that is so they do not apply to you.
We may update these terms. If a change is significant we will email account holders and update the date at the top. Continuing to use Counsellor after a change means you accept it.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of TODO_STATE, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Nothing here removes a consumer protection you have where you live.
